Delay, delay, delay, delay. Why do I even bother sometimes?? I look at this blog and I see the last post was back in November, when I talked about my messy breakup with the UK con scene, as well as questioning why I should still be an anime follower anymore. That post was more of an emo whine post than be something that fits into the ‘philosophy, reviews and obscure shows’ hole. Honestly, I do try and make an effort to think of decent topics to talk about here. I convince myself that my hands are full (with my regular posts on OASG), when in all reality, I have all the time in the world…and I just choose not to go to my keyboard and type. And even if posts I write end up incurring wrath, like back when I wrote a Darling in the Franxx post saying that Ichigo was infinitely the better choice for Hiro, and got it bad from the Zero Two stans. I don’t like to think I have a blabbermouth, but I look back on posts like that, and then I think perhaps I shouldn’t just type and type without a care (and actually draft my posts like a proper writer would) so much. Because if I stop to think whatever crap comes out of my head and makes it onto the computer screen, I wouldn’t get as many hate comments. Sounds simple, right?
I do have a roadmap of posts though, of sorts. It’s pretty detailed, but I’m a little scared if I reveal the entire thing, it’ll never come to fruition. You know, just like all our favorite video games put out roadmaps for expansions, and never actually fulfil their promises for…reasons. My time on OASG has meant that other shows have been put firmly on the backbone. I’d watch the seasonal shows I’d picked for that season, the ‘out-of-season’ show that Twitter readers tell me to watch, and that’s it. Though right now, in this Winter 2021 season, I’ve been lured into watching other stuff. I know I’d burn myself out if I ended up putting 6+ shows in my weekly column, that’s for sure, even with all the spare time I have. There have been some really amazing shows I’ve really enjoyed that will probably end up in my top 5 of the year list, while others have been massive disappointments or worse. EX-ARM, on the other hand, is still the greatest anime ever, change my mind. The people around me have said so much about it, calling it the worst show they’ve seen in a long time, and I get it. Don’t get me wrong: I know the animation is awful, the plot is messy and the characters are just dumb. But the way I see it, we can look at a show like EX-ARM and see how big of a deal making an anime show really is. I mean, the people behind this adaptation even admitted they’ve never really made an anime before.
Wait, how did we get here? Ah, that’s right, roadmap. I’m actually making drafts like a good writer, and have a good amount of things I’d like to bring to Anime Solstice (please clap). Heck, I might as well share some of these ideas. Because why not?
- I’d like to do another post project, like I did when I went back to Shoujo Kageki Revue Starlight. There’s some shows that pissed me off, and that need returning to, surely…
- It’s been over 4 years since my Happy Science post (which even they responded to), and an update post has been penciled into that roadmap. I’ve already said what I thought of some of their anime movies, but if I do decide to make a Part 2: Electric Boogaloo post, I’d want to expand some more without it actually looking like propaganda or some advertisement for the cult. All of that’s a big ‘if‘ though; doing a Part 2: Electric Boogaloo post might actually end up being a bad idea.
- There’s been some recent shows that have come out that I’d especially like to talk about in detail; one of which is Wonder Egg Priority. As of time of writing, it’s still airing, so I’ll wait until it’s finished first. For a post like that, I really want to go more into this dream world the main protagonist, Ai Ohto, goes into, what leads her there, as well as the character herself.
- Iyashikei is a sub-genre of slice-of-life that has really interested me recently, largely thanks to Yuru Camp. But as I look at some other slice-of-life shows, I notice a sense of Iyashikei in them too, so a post on all of that is penciled in.
- …and more.
I’ve stopped myself from the things on that roadmap where there’s a higher chance I’ll either just not write about them, or think it’s a really terrible topic to write about. Of course, I’ll still be on OASG writing my regulars there, and with this roadmap of posts, maybe I’ll score some big writing contract or something… 😀
Wish me luck. I’ll need it.
As far as blogging goes, I always encourage folks to write at their own pace; pushing oneself to write is fine and all, but it can be tricky to write when there’s pressure. That being said, I do look forwards to seeing what you’ve got planned out for the future!
Well here on this blog, I don’t really operate on deadlines, but at the same time, I’m still itching to put up something, so this place doesn’t look that dead. I’ve gone on far too many hiatuses here, and so I want to put together some kind of plan, even if it is a pretty loose one.
The Happy Science update post probably is a terrible idea, but I won’t be discounting it just yet, and thanks for the cheer.
